I was just interviewed for an article about Maple Grove, a shopping mall in Second Life created by Canada Post:
Robert Gourley is creative director of Mojave, an ad agency that has created experiences for brands in Second Life and other social online spaces. He says Maple Grove is an interesting attempt, but it doesn’t take [...]

At Mojave, we played off this universal truth to create a series of fun, interactive characters for CafePress. From the Emo Nephew (played by Jake Bern) to the Critical Mother-in-Law (Kelly Hazen), the site lets you interact with [...]

A typical day for creative director Robert Gourley is filled with client meetings, consumer research, presentations, art directing — you name it. Here, typical almost sounds overwhelming, hectic. Over the weekend, I went and saw the new American monster movie, [tag]Cloverfield[/tag]. I won’t review it here, there are already plenty of reviews out there for you to check out.
From a design perspective, I found the end credits interesting as they were inspired by a design technique called “glitch art”. [tag]Glitch art [...]

I’ve been pricing “prosumer” HD camcorders and I think I’ve settled on the Cannon XH A1. I looked at the Sony, but with the 20x Fluorite lens and the ability to shoot in 24p, I think the XH A1 is a better buy. Of course, I’ll buy it for Mojave, but since we already have [...]

I used to love this track in the 80’s – remember that this came out when most hip hop was just a simple beat with old 70’s funk sampled in. The techno hook still works for me today. I remember having a 12″ white vinyl version of this song with like 8 remixes. I let [...]

I worked from home the day of the huge storm in California. The winds were insane that day. We never lost power, but lost two trees and several of our roof tiles during the storm. It’s the worst wind I’ve seen in the bay area since living here.

The constant CalTrans improvements to the bay bridge approach means the SOMA is perpetually under construction. At one point on Brannan street, an offramp makes a huge, sweeping turn through the building. I happened to have my camera at lunch and snapped this shot.

Collage inspired by Radiohead’s “Climbing up the walls”
“Climbing Up The Walls”
I am the key to the lock in your house
That keeps your toys in the basement.
And if you get too far inside
You’ll only see my reflection.
It’s always best when the candle’s out,
I am the pick in the ice.
Do not cry out or hit the alarm,
You [...]
